Blackberry Obama di Hack
Hacker ternama Kevin Mitnick mengumumkan telah menyadap BlackBerry Presiden AS, Barack Husein Obama. Meskipun sudah didesain khusus dengan super enskripsi, dia menyebut dapat melakukan penyadapan. "BlackBerry Presiden Obama bisa ditembus," tegasnya, Sabtu pagi.
Kevin Mitnick sampai kini masih dianggap sebagai hacker termasyhur. Meskipun sudah diperingatkan penasihatnya, Obama 'ngotot' mempertahankan PDA-nya itu. Dalam beberapa kesempatan Obama terlihat menenteng gadget-nya itu. Banyak laporan yang menyebutkan, alat komunikasi Obama itu sudah dilengkapi software super enskripsi yang didesain secara khusus.
"Enskripsi itu justru membuat usaha penjebolan lebih menantang dan pasti bisa ditembus," kata Mitnick. Mitnick pernah diganjar lima tahun penjara, setelah mengaku salah melakukan hacking. Perusahaan yang dihacking adalah penyedia layanan telekomunikasi dan komputer terbesar di AS pada masa 1990-an.
Masa kelam itu telah lewat, dan Mitnick kini mengelola perusahaan keamanan cyber bernama Security Consulting. "Jika aku penyerang, aku akan mulai dari lingkaran teman dekat Obama, keluarga serta koleganya dan coba memanfaatkan komputer mereka," kata Mitnick.
"Yang perlu diserang adalah email Obama yang ada di BlackBerrynya," katanya. Menurut Mitnick orang yang dikenal Obama akan menjadi korban yang mudah diserang. Terutama perangkat komputer atau gadget yang ada di rumah, lebih mudah ditembus daripada yang digunakan di markas.
Jika alamat email Obama sudah diketahui, hacker secara teori dapat mengirim email dan dengan segala tipu daya agar Obama terjebak. Cara yang bisa dilakukan misalnya dengan memancing agar Obama mengunjungi situs tertentu yang sudah direkayasa dan terdapat kode penyerang.
Sekretaris media Gedung Putih Robert Gibbs kepada wartawan, bulan lalu mengatakan, hanya kelompok kecil kolega dan pembantu senior yang bisa bertukar informasi dengan Presiden Obama.
Chris Soghoian dari Berkman Center for Internet and Society, Universitas Harvard mengatakan, informasi yang dikirim melalui komputer lingkaran dalam Obama akan membuat presiden keturunan kulit hitam itu tidak curiga.
"Serangan langsung terjadi saat mengunjungi situs penjahat dan hanya dalam hitungan detik komputer memaksa akan men-download virus," papar Soghoian. Soghoian mengatakan penjahat yang mengejar BlackBerry Obama bukan mencari keuntungan ekonomi. Tapi lebih pada pemerintah asing yang ingin menyadap informasi rahasia.
"Orang yang hanya ingin popular dengan menerobos BlackBerry Obama kemampuannya tidak akan cukup. Ancaman paling nyata adalah dari beberapa orang dari warnet di Rusia atau sebuah tim 60 orang yang bekerja untuk pemerintah China. Ancaman itu datang dari tim yang disponsori oleh suatu pemerintahan," kata Soghoian.
Hacker menerobos BlacBerry Obama adalaah ancaman yang mungkin saja terjadi, kata Bill Brenner, senior editor "CSO Magazine" yang membahas masalah keamanan.
"Tidak ada keraguan ada hacker di luar sana yang akan menerobos ke BlackBerry Obama. Dalam beberapa kesempatan sudah tak terhitung orang mencoba melakukan hacking ke BlackBerry milik politisi, ponsel artis Paris Hilton serta jaringan komputer Departemen Pertahanan," jelasnya.
Sejauh ini pejabat di pemerintahan Obama menutup mulut mengenai detail BlackBerry yang digunakan. Juga masih belum pasti apakah Obama menggunakan BlackBerry atau Sectera Edge, smartphone super aman yang disediakan oleh Lembaga Keamanan Nasional AS atau NSA.
"Tidak ada yang tahu perangkat apa yang benar-benar digunakan oleh presiden. Memang ada beberapa informasi, tapi makin sedikit informasi maka semakin baik," kata Randy Sabett dari Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP mantan pegawai di NSA.
Research In Motion, perusahaan Kanada yang memproduksi handset serta jaringan yang mengantarkan e-mail BlackBerry melalui servernya sendiri tidak pernah menanggapi pertanyaan seputar BlackBerry yang digunakan Obama.
Pejabat di pemerintahan Obama tampaknya mempertimbangkan potensi risiko yang mungkin terjadi. Mitnick setuju komandan keamanan mungkin menjaga sistem komunikasi yang digunakan tetap rahasia, tapi belum cukup.
"Pertanyaannya sejauh mana intelejen bisa ikut campur? Mungkin ada aturan hanya yang bukan rahasia saja yang boleh dibicarakan. Jika mendiskusikan masalah rahasia, aku jamin mereka perlu enskripsi menggunakan metode algoritma tingkat lanjut," jelas Mitnick.
Tapi Mitnick mewanti-wanti para hacker untuk mempertimbangkan konsekuensi yang bisa didapat jika melakukan itu. "Pemerintah akan mengejar dengan kekuatan yang dipunyai," imbuhnya.
Tapi hukuman tidak akan mencegah 100% orang berbuat kejahatan. "Tidak ada yang 100% di bidang keamanan dan orang yang mengatakan sebaliknya pasti berbohong. Dan jika jadi seorang presiden, akan selalu ada ancaman dari seseorang yang coba menerobos," tandasnya.

LCD TV Calibration
Regular readers of LCD TV Buying Guide reviews will notice that our display reviews often contain lengthy sections detailing the various picture adjustments available on a particular LCD television. Why? Because in order to get the best detail and most accurate picture from your TV, you'll need to do some adjusting with these controls. Factory settings on TVs are almost always tweaked to maximum brightness and contrast and are enabled with image "edge enhancement" features as well. Manufacturers do this so that the TV picture will "pop" on the retail store floor compared to other models. However, this is not how the director of the programming you are viewing intended for you to see the film, or sports or sitcom that you see. It's not natural to the eye and a lot of the "enhancement" settings on a plasma or LCD TV these days are just the opposite of that. Setting the proper color, brightness, and and operating levels on an LCD TV can make a huge difference in your viewing pleasure.
WHY CALIBRATE?
If you're interested in getting the best possible picture from your flat panel or rear projection TV--or even a CRT tube TV--you can't assume that it comes straight out of the box with it's picture adjustments set properly. The next time you're in one of the "discount" home electronics stores, step back and take a look at the array of plasma, LCD, and projections TVs. Notice how they all look different? Since they're all displaying the same signal, shouldn't they all look the same?
The fact is, each manufacturer has a different idea about what "looks best," and they usually adjust their sets to show off their particular strengths--and hide their weaknesses. Also, pay attention to the lighting of the showroom itself: does your living room look like that when you watch movies, or even sports on TV? The pictures on the display floor may be "punchy" and bright, but the detail and resolution that gets washed out really takes away from your home theater experience. What's more, running a TV at these settings can even be damaging to the display technology, overloading pixel cells and projection lamps alike long before their time.
Nokia N79 on sale - no charger
LONDON, England - Quietly dropping onto the UK Nokia online store comes this Nokia N79, sporting free Xpress-on smart covers, a free Ngage game, a £4 donation to WWF and.... no charger! We wrote about Nokia's plans to ship devices without chargers, therby allowing much smaller packaging, back in December at Nokia World and when Mike wrote about batteries the month before.
We knew a test would be happening at some point, but this one kind of snuck up on us, coming as it does hot on the heels of the N79 Active. Still, it's a hot debate point.
The strapline shouts the eco credentials of the package (though we're not sure about the need for three Xpress-on smart covers - isn't that starting to defeat the purpose?) Still, shipping a device without a charger is an interesting concept. I know my house is stuffed with Nokia chargers (even if I can never find one when i want one!) And I'm sure the same will be true of any Nokia regulars. What's good about this is being offered the choice - with a charger, without a charger, with an active pack, without an active pack - there are now a range of variants for the N79 and I reckon that's going to have some appeal amongst customers.

Will we see it on offer from networks though? That's a tough question. We don't know if there are any plans on that front yet, and it'll probably depend on how this trial goes.
